This game lacks build variety - skill sets aren't unique. Your abilities are simple, boring and limited by specialisations.

I have got T4 to T6 in every weapon class/armor and honestly at this point I just can't find anything fun or unique enough to keep playing. Even if you watch duelers in Caerleon bank - everyone is using the same gimmicks. Skill design is one of the biggest flaws in this game. Designed for mobile-device combat, eh?

When new stuff is gonna be added I hope it's not gonna be +10% dmg toggle or other bullshit. Combat is a mess. No amount of new pve/pvp content is gonna fix the simplistic combat with one-dimensional builds..

  • I think another issue is that what could be interesting is locked behind high cost "artifacts" and even then, a lot of those weapons suffer from the possibility of being interesting but having lackluster skills (ie: Black Hands, Cursed Skull). I'm hoping with time they begin to add more variety to the standard weapon options, as well as buff up the "stronger" weapons that already exist.

I more or less am in the same boat as you and I feel like I am constantly pigeonholing myself into building for ganking when it's not even what I want to do in the game.

    There's no balance either.

Some things simply do one thing another weapon does, except better.

Like why do you want to play polehammer when you have soulscythe.
  • Agreed 100%. There are lots of spells in this game but because you can pick so few, all builds are bland and lacklustre. MOBA style combat but without the variety and uniqueness of MOBA abilities. A quick look at League of Legends roster shows how MOBA style builds should be done and Albion fails at it, big time.

It is an MMO so it needs more ability slots and more high level special abilities. Until then, the combat will be lacklustre and boring.
  • I think at the most we could use ONE more ability slot. Arcanist comes to mind as something that really suffers from not being able to use more than one of it's W skills, making it extremely limited and boring. Something that allowed you to use two of the W skills would be amazing and also probably totally throw all the balance out the door.

Good thing there is no balance tho.
I'd like to see something like jewelry introduced in the future. Like one ring and one necklace slot - one gives some passive ability, another one gives active one.
  • Right...

That seems far more likely than us getting extra weapon skill slots. It would also add actual variety since there could be many options (defensive/utility/damage/debuffs/etc). I love testing things like cooldown reduction on certain builds, but in the end all that ever happens is that it further amplifies the already apparent energy issues with a lot of weapons I am interested in.
  • Biggest issues are that the game limits your attacks to be mobile friendly, when the mobile market is realistically a very small % of the playerbase. Having 2 abilities with small cooldowns and a 3rd with a longish cooldown for your only attacks means there is not a great degree of timing required to use them decently. Add in the armors and pots and youre still only at 7 abilities, the pot has a 2 min cooldown, and the armor abilities also all have cooldowns, many of which can be quite long.

Compare that to something like the original guild wars, which limited you to 8 abilities and people whined about, and it was far more engaging combat wise. Not only could you pick any 8 abilities you wanted from your class and neutral abilities without restriction, there were enough abilities to choose from to make many very different builds within each class. Here most weapons are limited to 2 Q's, 2-3 W's and 1 E. You could argue that the line gives you options to 4-5 E's but you also need to grind up the spec for it, and you can't mix the abilities how you would like. Even when picking through armor every armor has access to certain skills, if you use one of those it literally doesn't even matter what you wear in that slot. Such as if you want to use "Run" on your boots, or want to use one of the shield abilities on your chest.

Combat would be a lot more interesting if they just did away with different weapons within each line, because lets be honest, there is no reason to have 70+ weapons in the game. Much bigger pools for of abilities to pick from, and more slots for them. Ideally would want at least 5 slots for weapon related abilities, and they should be different and interesting enough to be used in different sequences to create dynamic gameplay choices.
  • I don't know where this mobile argument comes from because mobiles are not officially supported. Only PCs and tablets are. We got 6 skill slots that is plenty. There are also 3 passive slots, that is a good number.

The problem I see is that those skills are unimpressive and boring for the most part. The game needs more original ideas for skills and actual "ultimates". Heck, the skills do not evrn need to be original, steal ideas from LoL, DOtA or HOTS.

I also think that in the long run each item needs to have its unique set of skills and not share 2 with other items. And the passives should be though out to go with the item's abilities and have a more distinctive and impactful effect, right now they are generic and boring.
  • Honestly, I've had more fun with many of the top rated mobile games. Playing Albion I often feel "why am I playing this." There is no assassination or intense combat like a moba, nor is there an easy to find opponent. The weapon abilities are spammy, there is little skill with timing or execution. I feel like the combat is stuck between moba and mobile app without the good traits of either.

It's really really a bummer because neither of those genres offer much community, but even if Albion can offer the community, it won't last without an engrosing, engaging world.

  • Dear SBI, please be creative and dynamic for designing weapon and armor skills.

Most of skills in Albion Online are very 1-dimensional, lazy, and boring.

Many of weapons share same mechanics such as dashing a straight line, spinners, jump and land for melee weapons, circle area aoe, shooting a ball for almost every mage weapons.

Not a single weapon should share a same old boring concept. Discover some fresh and dynamic skills!

Comparing the mechanics of Heroes of the storm's Marthael or League of legends' Katarina, their skills are way more interesting than Albion's any melee weapons.

We need Authentic & Fun to use skills.

I know Albion is extremly more complicated game than simple moba game with lots of contents combined such as open world pvp, 5v5 fights, zerg battles and etc, but this doesn't mean the game needs to be conservative and limit our creativity.

the combat system in this game clearly lacks of passive skill, its what make combat on moba game looks interesting and dynamic
chance to approc bad status (ministun, critical, knockback, etc) , passive which add bonus dmg/stat if whatever conditions
All the issues with the combat aside, the game has variations of this on literally every single weapon.
there is stun/root/knockback/burn but its not rate chance, just x hits conditions only,
every weapon playstyle are blasting spell, there;s no build which depend heavily on its passive like some moba character bcz the passive on this game is just that insignificant
    sry for stupid grammar
  • IMO we need more passives on weapons and equipment diversed between more tiers. Stuff form t4 can't have that same skills like T6-7. T6 should have at least 1 more skills active to choose or 2 passives.
Other thing is lack of equpiment slots, we have now 4 eq slots to give diversity (chest, head, legs, weapon) offhand, cape, bag isnt importat. IMO maybe another potion or amulet slot is needed. So each weapon have 3! = 1x2x3 possibilites of eq which isnt much.
