Both Glaive and 1 handed Frost are absolutely retarded atm in GvGs. Overall it's a shit show and people will lose motivation to play the game because:

      1. Sticky potions are so out of whack - they single handedly counter melee classes and the fact that EVERYBODY on your team can use one is pretty retarded.
      2. Glaive does a tremendous amount of damage, it's actually a RANGE weapon and has the biggest displacement in the game on a ~20 second CD - what the fuck is this shit?
      3. 1 handed frost - provides INSTANT damage AND instant control - no weapons actually do this on AO.
      4. Refaming/respeccing to a viable weapon from the beginning is liquid aids because it requires WAY more fame and the fame grind rates are WAY slower than before - PvE faming isn't even fun at all because the actual PvE content in this game is dog shit, laggy, and super buggy with tons of memory leaks.

Balance Changes will come into the game with a big combat balance patch. The Combat Balance patch has been pushed back to go live with the next content update. Which we will announce more about soon.
We are still in internal testing, but among other changes the patch contains adjustments to the points 1-3. It also contains improvements to a range of under used items, like the Frazzle change, which is also part of the combat balance update. Unfortunatelly the tooltip got accidently exported into the live game, but this change will also be part of the big combat balance patch. As well, as Smart Cast.

      Cheers,

What the fuck does anyone care about Frazzle? His post is all about serious meta issues that affect high tier GvG.

Thank god for smart cast but Retroman come on fam Sticky potions should never have gotten into the game as is.

And what are your thoughts on Potions?

      Specifically Gigantify, Sticky, Poison?

Do you feel potions were better when it was mostly Mana/Health. I felt the comp and weapons mattered more in that Era, as it is now, it's whoever get's caught in more stickies loses. Coupled with the fact you can't tell if it's a friendly or enemy sticky until you're walking slow.

To emphasize again what I wanted to say with this line: Sticky Potions will be toned down. ^

Although I am happy with Potions now beeing part of your build, the current impact of Sticky Potions in team fights is too much.

Okay so can we get a heads up on what's actually going to happen IN ADVANCE and can you (you in particular because you are the only who is dealing with combat balance) listen to the 100s of people posting forum feedback about proposed changes?

Some people are already refaming their specs (going into glaive/1hfrost lol) and have already spent 100s of hours in the hopes of being viable in GvG/Hellgates/small scale PvP (which AO is allegedly catering towards). Please don't flat out nerf shit to the point that they're not viable and please don't buff something to the point that it's mandatory (looking specifically at arcane and curse).

I mean I get it, this game isn't meant to be balanced like League of Legends/DotA 2, but it wouldn't it be nice to be at least on the same page as those two games?
    • league of legends in this case particular has a shifting meta, dota 2 is pretty balanced though. doing a league in this game is rather stupid because in league all you have to do is learn the champion, here you have to put hours into releveling the gear. there needs to be some kind of catchup mechanism, like 50% fame bonus to the same type of gear. say youre using frost, its level 50 by now but frost sucks in a new patch so you go curse, curse will get 50% fame bonus until it reaches said level.

      something like this.

        • Reduced Fame payout for Trophy journals; previously they were effectively the fastest way to level your laborer, which is silly and would lead to a huge surplus of trophies

A lot of us used generalist trophy journals since launch and have t7/t8 workers already. If you are going to nerf trophy journals, you should buff regular journals in order for players who didn't take advantage of this to catch up.

There is a shockingly low # of people actually utilizing workers as far as I can tell, and I think a big part of this is lack of information. For example, it would also be nice to see the estimated XP when handing in a journal, similar to how you can see the estimated yield.

The ability to move workers from one house to another would also be a big help for new players who gimp themselves without understanding the trophy system & then have to start all over.

    • A Dev replied in another thread:

Hiya! The black screen issue is more complicated - it not only affects android users but all other platforms/OS as well. First issue is that "big" clusters take more time for mobile devices to load - this should be improved with this patch, second one is that each time you change cluster, not only the cluster is being loaded but also all additional info from the database + you may also "switch" from one game server to another... and it even gets more complicated when you consider instanced clusters like personal/guild islands, hellgates and expeditions. That's what devs are working on right now but as I mentioned in previous post, that's nothing we can fix with a single patch.

In what way you gonna deal with problem of people needing to reroll cause of your balance changes, cause a lot of us play this game cause of pvp and not getting bored to death inside dungeon?
    • Devs have already warn not to roll for the meta cause of the natural likelihood of items beeing nerfed. Yet ppl reroll and now cry after been able to shine in pvp for a few weeks.

Now you want special treatment hah this generation.. You will just have to spend countless hours like the rest of the top GvG teams who decided they wanted the Op builds for their lineups. Suck it up or quit and let a new group take the A team position.

you do know theres a reason the metagame exists?
"yo just level up everything at the same time and be useful in 2 years"

      ?

Or the entire GvG population is going to quit because nobody wants to spend 1000s of hours grinding to be relevant...

The PvE in this game is dog shit, even if the servers weren't atrocious and even if SBI somehow made PvE "engaging" - good luck having people dedicate hours AGAIN on another spec.

A decent solution would be to give players a 100% fame bonus when they unlock tier 8 in a specific line (able to wear tier 8 cloth chests/leather boots etc) - Even with the 2x combat fame, it's still a LOT of hours grinding. If you're not counting outliers like CV, you get about ~100k fame per hr on avg, including down time for repairs, wipes, reaver attunement, PvP etc. Getting to level 100 in a line is a little less than 10 million fame. So it'll take the average player OVER 100 hours to get to tier 8 if they stick with the same weapon.

I'm all for promoting game longevity and I'm all for 'working hard to build your character' - but there's gotta be some kinda buff granted when refaming another specialization.

It can be easily solved by simply balancing all the items properly. 6-buttons-pvp is not hard to balance at all, and all balancing problems are seen clear as day for anyone doing a tiny bit of PvP, the solutions to them are clear aswell.
Alternatively, each specific weapon should have something to be wanted in the game, so no weapon will ever be left useless. Say, if double swords would be able to reduce enemies' damage around the user with good uptime and for a good amount - it will be often used in PvE and PvP to protect squishy targets. If Pair Daggers' slit throat could silence with no casttime - it would always be needed because of this silence, etc.

Can I ask for a quick rundown for the upcoming patch? It would be interesting for everyone to see what you guys have in mind. What you think is too strong/too weak, what you're fixing and what's currently being observed, etc.

When is the combat balance patch coming?

This meta of glaive/sticky/frost is extremely boring, lacks very little skill, and is super one dimensional. The combo has near Zero risk, and it's watered the game down a ton.

after dagger pair nerf nothing will surprise me :D
"Awaiting of punishment yields more suffering than punishment itself"
They want to punish FotM players it seems.

Sad thing is that we can't even have any details on what do they want to nerf/buff and in what ways. I wouldn't be surprised if we'll get a dual swords nerf and a cursed staff buff or something.
