Mount Idea

  • You know I really enjoy the heavy reliance in Albion on transporting goods across the world. I'm also of the opinion that for large scale transportation a player should have many more choices on what mount they use to transport their goods beyond just an Ox for large loads.

This is where my idea comes into play. As we have already seen throughout the world of Albion and in recent screenshots of the new world. There are numerous carriages/wagons throughout the game. Rather than simply a vanity object in the world I believe we should have access to carts/wagons pulled by either horses or oxen. Given the choice between horses or oxen you open up the potential for either fast moving but lower quantity higher carry weight than horse OR you pick oxen and you move slower but you have extremely high carry weights for transporting large quantities across Albion. Potentially this could open up options for either single or double drawn wagons and during crafting you can increase the number of items required to craft depending on an open wagon or covered.

In these scenarios wagons would have slightly higher durability than regular oxen but move slightly slower with an increased carry weight beyond normal limits. Currently a t6 Ox can carry approx 1550kg moving at 5.2m/s and in theory a t6 wagon pulled by an ox should increase this carry load to near 2000kg moving at only 4m/s. I wouldn't start players in the game at t3 with the ability to pull a wagon but rather have this start out at higher tiers and potentially extend beyond the current tier number for higher carry weights.

A wagon should fill a role of a lumbering transport that on its own is ripe for attacking but when defended provides a defensible transport to carry large loads of goods from city to city.
  • It would be nice to see wagons and carriages in game and those should be definetly craftable. Lets go with wagons first..

Wagon. I want to see wagons as carriers with much more capacity than regular oxes, but also as utility for group gathering. To craft T6 wagon with 2 oxes for example, you need T6 materials (most of wood) and two T6 oxes as well. Or there could be option to craft wagon with 1 or 2 or 4 ox(es). Tier level ofc effects to carrying capacity, speed and maybe sound it makes.

    • Wagons could also be designed to help group gathering.
    • Party members can also load stuff in it.
    • When owner dismounts the wagon, it still stays in game (maybe a specific time depending of tier lvl). It also gives the owner or/and solo player some time to gather and load the wagons with goods.
    • In PvP zones wagons without driver can be stolen. If this could be implement in reasonable way, it could be fun open world PvP activity. Stole other guild's full resource wagons by zerg and drive the mega loot to home. ;)
I know this might bring some issues with it, but could it still be implemented in some way?

Sounds like an awesome idea. I know that many gatherers have been asking for something similar. As you stated though it would ultimately depend on how it is implemented in to the game. I am sure someone out there would attempt to spam these or troll people in some way or another :P

This is actually a really great idea!!! I'm not sure how a wagon pulled by 4 would work though. It almost seems like the carrying capacity would be so high that it almost forces players to use them. In searching through typical real world situations it seems oxen are generally always in a tandem rather than 4.

Edit2: Also the wagon existing in the world after a dismount would be awesome. It really reminds me of the portable repair station. Logging out when on a wagon should leave it in the zone as if it was abandoned.

Additionally, adding wagons could also open up the possibilities of what animals you can use to pull the wagon. Though some of the coolest ideas are often a bit strange to think about like a direwolf/direbear I could really see a direboar or rhino pulling these to fill the role of an ox adding to the rarity of getting a wagon or increasing speed/carry capacity. First you have to capture a direboar piglet or a rhino calf grow them in kennels and then use them for crafting but depending on what you choose to pull your cart/wagon you move faster with a direboar or pull more with a rhino (or two) :P

Edit: An example crafting recipe for t6 might be:

    • 250 t6 Bloodoak Planks
    • 250 t6 Lavish Cloth
    • 2 t6 Ox (insert other animal)
    • 50 Hardened Leather
Each object in the crafting serves a purpose. The oxen or other animal to pull the cart/wagon. Planks to craft your cart/wagon. Cloth for the wagon cover/seat. The hardened leather to pad the yoke (though more commonly done with horse yokes than ox).

  • @Xyrdin you also mentioned carriages, so maybe there is room for those also. Carriage is almost like wagon, but it is designed to carry people, but much less gargo, than wagons. Carriage is pulled with horses and are ofc ment to travel fast. Crafting goes same way as wagons we talked earlier. Now the carrying capasity and speed depends again from the tier level.

    • Someone can use carriage as hackney cab and transport other players for money.
    • Parties can easily move to wanted destination. Only one needed to drive and rest can just chill.
    • Guilds might find several use for carriages to move players to planned destination.
    • Who wants to run in GvG fights when you can go with ride?
    • Guild officers dont have to move long distances anymore, they can use newcomers as court drivers. :D

this sht needs to happen asap

  • I really like this idea, in PvP zones they could be attackable, and after they lose all their durability/hitpoints/whatever, the contents could be lootable by anyone. This would create a cool dynamic between gathering parties and raiding parties, the gatherers could hire on guards(players not NPC) to protect their wagon/carriage while they travel. It's little social things like this that make a game world believable.
  • Sounds like an amazing concept. Devs take a look at this guy hes got some good ideas!
Only thing I would add was instead of party members being able to take and put things in I would change it to a double drawn carriage being guild with permissions set like chests on guild islands, and single drawn carriages being individual with individual permissions.

Lets say if the wagon has no driver at the moment, it can be stolen by anyone in PvP zones. Not instantly and maybe the mounting takes like 5 secs channel for example, which can be canceled with attack. I like the idea, that the wagon has durability.
    • When durability reaches to zero, maybe the driver drops off, but he/she is still alive and can fight.
    • And again when there is no driver, it can be mounted by anyone.
    • Wagon stays in world x time if it is without driver and after that it will be destroyd.
    • Wagon can be dismount by driver only if its empty.
I am still thinking that lootable part, can it be implemented some reasonable way. Maybe if you click oxes you are mounting and trying to take the driver seat. If you channel the wagon part, it opens wagon's inventory from where you can loot stuff like from dead body. Now you have change to stole the whole thing or just take something little from the load and run away.

I absolutely love this Idea, especially carriages! Moving around as a party in a wagon to escort a pack of ox riders would be awesome!
In latest Community Q&A from may devs wrote like this:

(Carts) New tool: carts - is this a possibility?
    Yes, it is a possibility.

So we have a change to get carts/wagons/carriages in some sort of form. Now we can just help this process by giving them good suggestions and wish the best. ;)
  • Everybody has seen the latest final beta video (and if you are not, go check it now ;) ) and it showed us one point why fast travel is now removed from outland. Now people are forced to travel though lands and escort all stuff with own caravans. It automatically leads to roaming bandit groups and there will surely be interesting conflicts in during beta2. Some people are against this and others got what they have wished. But now i see here truly the oppurtunity to different kind of wagons and carriages like we have discussed before. These gives atleast more variations and possibilities to travel and move supplies from place to another and that way might help the pain of removing fast travel. And we have to remember that wagons are not hurting the new travel system and all is also crafted by players.
