Why do I always end up solo queueing into this? A team of brand new players going against full silver 1&2 teams...

Because the match making algorithm is dysfunctional. Part of the issue is likely a lack of people in queue for arenas.
The other issue being how people with negative win/loss ratios can still somehow be in silver I or silver II, which one would assume is meant to top 30%-50% of players.
The RP issue is another problem altogether. If i play 10 games in a row and win/lose half, it will result in an overall net loss for me.
I believe both should be possible. However, there should be an RP penalty for teaming and winning / losing vs solo (and inversely those that fought the team) , because obviously the risk to reward is much less if you’re teaming.
Doesn’t make sense to have solo queue take more of a liability at the high levels. Same mechanics as group dungeons / partys.
