There's so many cool features that I'd want to test on a private server such as:

1. Remove global cooldown timer
2. Creating my own custom skins
3. Designing new battle mounts, allowing more ferocious mobs
4. Removing mob de-aggro in dungeons ( Would be fun to pull the whole dungeon and do 1 big wombo combo)

I disagree. They can be great when the publisher are greedy bastards like with Gameforge. Sometimes splitting up the community is a good thing.
