Background information on Premium price adjustments

    • Background information on Premium price adjustments

      Dear Albion players,

As announced here, we will be increasing the price for premium time on January 29 at 10:00 UTC.

Price increases are always a difficult topic. We would like to give you our reasons for the price change:

Prices for the premium status were originally set in 2015. In the years that have passed since then, general business expenses have increased a lot. More importantly, Albion Online is now a much more polished a feature-rich game than what it was back then or even when it was first released in 2017. We have come a long way since then and are continuing to expand and improve the game with full force and are consistently bringing more people on board to help us with that.

We want to make sure that this growth is well-funded. Our business model is based on the premium status and vanity items and we will keep it that way. Adding any “pay to win” elements to our shop is a big no go for us. Hence, rather than reinventing the wheel, we have decided that adjusting the price of the premium status is the right way to go about this.

However, we did not want to go overboard either. When determining the new prices for the premium status, we did a survey of the MMORPG market to make sure that new prices are still lower than those of most other MMORPGs. We believe that the new prices a fair and a good representation of what the game has to offer.

To keep things fair, we have made sure that existing recurring subscriptions and new ones that are made before January 29, 10:00 UTC will stay on the old, lower prices when they auto renew.

Please note that you cannot currently have a recurring Albion Online subscription on Steam, so if you want to benefit from the old prices you will have to follow our Steam guide to set up a recurring subscription via our website.

Thank you for your continued support!

    • Which in turn makes it harder to maintain premium through in game silver (it’ll be around 20% more expensive in silver costs for 1 month silver sub).

Do you anticipate that the price changes will have any impact in the gold price?

Still exists arena bug, still in case of disconnexion we have to wait several minutes to relog, still not optimized for Macs...

You guys just add shop items and spend money on ads, steam but no improvements in terms of performance, nothing useful for old players.
The idea of game was good, but your realisation and marketing orientation killed it.

dont forget all the lag stutter and otherwise bad performance of the servers
    • I have been playing Albion since May, and I have to say, the game is not at all "feature-rich". Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the game, and I spend a lot of time playing, but let's be honest there's not more than 10 different things to do in the game, but maybe the Queen update changes that.

I think this is the worst time you could have announced the change. On the day of the biggest update in Albion history? It should have been announced like 2 weeks ago or like a week from now, in order to ensure that the Queen update was not filled with bugs.

I think the guys at SBI should spend the extra premium money on hiring an economist that specializes in game markets. The changes to the premium price will affect the amount of gold in the game, which in turn will likely affect the price of gold per silver.

I guess the Silver Sink Adjustment update was just preparation for this, cause the price of gold will return to ~3700-4000 after this change. That must be why all the newbs that get premium for the first time will get 1k gold.

Also I do have to say, the game may not be a traditional pay-to-win game, but Albion is pay-to-win. For example, a new player could spend $500 on gold, and buy any and all resources they need to progress to T8 crafting for whatever set of gear. Then they have basically unlimited sets of T8 gear, without ever earning any silver themselves. That is the definition of pay-to-win.

    • Okay, so you're saying that we're going to have to pay more for Premium in a year in Albion than we pay for PS Plus, that hands out a lot of freebies regularly and for a game that isn't nearly as polished??? (just check your last event execution, it was awful attending it)

What the hell SBI, get your shit together, the game was meant to be free, then pay-to-play, then pay to play with premium, and now free to play with an expensive as fuck premium?
And don't even mention that it can be bought ingame with silver, because it's going to be unreasonable to pay 10m silver for one single month of Premium.

And as @Trees said earlier, the game is p2w. A clear damn example if those that have the means of getting tens of thousands of gold injected into the game and just buy a ton of shit like Experience Tomes.

note: I live in Brazil, and the ratio for dollars to my local currency it's blatantly high.
    • I have always had a question, dose the purchase of Premium in Silver remove an equivocal amount of Gold from the gold market, if not, it should, ad it creates more of a demand for players to purchase Gold, thus generating additional revenue.

Yes it fulfils a gold sell order and removes gold from the market.

I think it's great news, im always concerned about the financial model of the game since it looks like too easy to buy premium from silver earned in game, this shoud be what it needs to keep the game running and growing up ! BTW plz add a banana image to guilds crest, i need it so badly !! ty and congrats for your efforts guys !!
    • Granted, Queen is a huge implementation to the game and expenses must have increased to afford this change, but with saying that, it was evident that the game struggled previously with the monthly subscription, which is why it went F2P (from my understanding). Therefore, increasing the premium is going to revert back to that stage basically and will continue to hinder new players to the game as it is seen time and time again that new players are already hardly sticking around for the long duration. Granted, SBI is entitled to do as these please, but struggling to grow from a monthly subscription before to reverting back to it, essentially, might impact the game.

Let the adventures continue however they go...
