How many gatherers like gathering in red/black?

    • How many gatherers like gathering in red/black?

I played at launch for about a month. I am at t5 gathering on most nodes.

The game went f2p so I came back. I like PvP normally, but this is a different kind of PvP. I mean if you are in a guild that owns a plot, do you actually go out in the zone and fight over the plot?
(sorry, kind of side tracked from topic)

My point with this post is. I enjoy gathering in this game. Ive gotten to around red zones, other than avoiding being ganked or occasionally trying to gank someone, I have found no other forms of PvP?
If youre just a solo gatherer and go into red/black whats the point, besides a lot of stress?(and of course better loot)

Id like to come back to the game, but having to constantly be on guard 5 people are going to pop up on me has turned me away from playing.
Id be fine if you lose half your loot in red and 75% in black or something. It wouldnt be as detrimental to the process.

In my mind the only people who enjoy playing are the ones in groups going around getting kills.
Do the gatherers actually like the process of this? Do you always have to have someone with you incase people show up to kill you?
I cant get my head around how this would be fun, unless you are in a huge guild that is capable of this. But I also like to PvE mobs while I gather, that kind of eliminates wearing actual gathering set gear..

I doubt anything will change since it hasnt. I miss playing, thinking about getting killed in red/black without some kind of escort, is enough to keep me from playing.
I dont want to go hunt gatherers either, I want to gather and do my thing without needing to rely on others for my safety. I dont want to have to constantly look over my should for danger.
To the ones actually gathering in red/black. Please explain what its like. Do you always have others with you? Is it easy? Does it suck? Are you solo, or in a big guild?
The game doesnt seem very solo friendly at all.(more off topic)

I just want to gather in peace. I dont want to join a guild. I dont want to get a crew with me to go mob hunting or farming. I dont understand how that isnt possible?
I dont understand how gatherers even play in red/black.
    • Gathering in black is great but yes you need to understand hot areas. First off you should always run at least 1 zone past the portal zone. Next you should avoid gathering close to travel areas such as roads/dungeons. Gathering in a zone with a warcamp is also helpful to occasionally drop off loot to mitigate potential loss. Anglia is your best bet right now for relative gather freedom but once again make sure you get passed the portal entry zone first before you start.
    • This game is extremely similar to Eve Online which i played for many years, what i discovered there is that as you progress you will inevitably have to work with other people to get those better results.

In Eve there are Corporations (guilds), groups of individuals that band together with a similar goal in mind that offer each other bolstered numbers and safety, this allows them to mine (gather) in relative safety as compared to being alone, they will have familiar regions of space (zones) that they stick around a lot, they will have scouts in near by systems, and response fleets to engage threats that come nearby.

What you need to do is to find a guild that can support you and help you achieve your goals, preferably a large one with many people on comms in a local region that will be proactive in taking out potential threats.

      Safety in numbers.

I missed this part of your post.

If this is the case, then this isn't the game for you, what it sounds like you want to do is play a form of farm simulator.

This game is built around the PvP element, the interaction between players in dynamic situations, if you don't want a game with that.. then maybe another game might be better suited?
    • After F2P, gathering in black zones is more risk then reward, almost or empty nodes, T4 groups wandering looking for easy/solo gatherers, more traffic overall and offcourse gankers (what is ok) what is the same as before F2P.

Gathering is now much harder with lesser resourses each run. I do smaller runs, bank more often, wearing combat gear on an armered horse.

More BZ land is coming soon, and honestly I haven't ran into too many gankers in Anglia. Not a lot of gankers care about stone territories lol
    • I only gather solo in the black zones and there are just some hard and fast rules you have to live by.

      1) Never go out with anything you aren't prepared to lose.
      2) Always travel 1 - 2 zones away from the portal.
      3) Never use an ox.
      4) Always dismount right next to the node your going to farm so you can mount immediately upon seeing a name flash on your screen.
      5) Taking the long way to a portal aka skirting the edge of the map instead of bee lining straight to it can help avoid gank squads that like to roam choke points that you have to go through to get to the portal.
      6) If you exit a portal and immediately see 8 - 10 players roaming outside of the portal you should probably hop out and wait for your portal timer to cool to see if any of the other gates aren't so hot.
      7) Avoid roads like the plague.
8-When dodging on your mount do everything you can to stay mounted. If you get dismounted you will die.

Honestly you just have to mentally prepare yourself to get ganked.

I usually get killed about 1 out of every 7 - 10 trips and it's usually because I broke one of the cardinal rules I try to live by.

The profit always tends to be greater than the loss.
    • I understand the idea of this topic's author. I feel the same...

However I know that because it is hard to gather the itens are more valuable but what should I do... Use my lumberjack set? Or my plate set? Should I use my normal mace? Should I use armored horse instead of ox?

@Burntends sir, could you give some more tips?

I am still not at the gather level to go to these zones although I am close and would like to get prepared for what I am going to face.

For example, what are these portals?
    • @pmachado3 sure!

-Never ever do ox. Quickest way to lose everything unless you have an escort (Which as solo players we don't have)
      - I tend to go out in gathering gear due to the bonuses and escapes that are provided.
      - Gearing for combat will do you no good against a gank squad (5+ people) You'll just get stun-locked until they whack you to pieces.
      - As for horses I just use a tier 4 standard horse. If I lose it it's only 35K out the door instead of an armored mount.
      - As for what weapon to take I use a 2-h greataxe. If I'm stuck fighting a monster(s) to get to a good node you need the fight to be over as quick as possible so it reduces the amount of time you are vulnerable and unable to mount.
      - Portals are found in the major cities on the map. They're color coded so once you pick one you can only use that color. If you want to change the color of portal you use you will have to travel in the outlands to that portal and use it to get your portal color changed.

Again remember it's all in your mindset. Some players get turned off pretty quick to the full loot PVP aspect of this game due to the fact that losing all your shit is expensive. So make sure that you build up a good bank account that can replace what you've lost. My rule of thumb is to have 5x the cost of what I'm heading out in minimum in the bank.

There are nights where I gather all night and never get chased and end up banking a good million+

Then there are other nights where I go out and get prison raped a couple times and lose my T6 gathering gear etc which usually sets me back about 350K. (This seems to happen a lot if I'm getting my drink on lol)

Anyway I hope this was all helpful.

On a sidebar if any guild is looking for a T6 ore gatherer well on his way to T7 I'm looking for a guild so hit me up!
