    • Player-Based Courier System

      Hey guys,

First thing's first: I'm a noob, so take this with a grain of salt. However to my knowledge there is no player-based courier system in this game. I believe this game would benefit from having a system in place similar to Eve Online, that allows players to pay other players to move goods from one location to another. For those who may not know what I am talking about, the way it works in Eve is that the player who wants goods shipped can post a contract listing a) the location they want to goods shipped from, b) the location they want the goods shipped to, c) a collateral that the courier pays to the player who posted the contract, to be repaid upon successful completion (this is assurance that the courier will not simply take your stuff and run) and d) payment for the courier upon completion of the contract. The contract can be made viewable publicly, to members of specific guild(s) or only to certain individuals. This could be good for a variety of reasons:

1: It makes it easier to move goods from location to location for the average player. Instead of risking dying yourself, you can pay someone else to take that risk for you.

2: It creates a niche for people who want an alternative way of generating profit

3: It could create a more dynamic interplay between couriers and gankers (presumably each group would be coordinating to outmaneuver the other)

One downside I can think of is that this might devalue resources somewhat, depending on the region and the resources in question. Just a thought, I'm curious to hear what you all think about this.
    • This kind of idea has been proposed throughout the years. There’s a solid proof of concept in EVE and it’s a highly requested activity. The roadmap change seem like a great environment to promote a system like that. I remember when I started I wanted to be a caravan guard, and that’s what I did for the first few months.

interested in what reasons have kept it from being added for so long, since it’s seems 100% positive.
    • This sounds cool, aside from the 'job' aspect of it, it would promote more PvP too, since you'd see a lot more people barging stuff around and people either protecting caravans or hiding in bushes to jump them. Yes I know this happens now too, but if this was a system in the game, I think it would occur more frequently.

Sounds good, but you will lose your load everytime you hire me i’ll be ganges by my friends without guild so i can use your materials later :)
Of course, that is why the client would set their own payout, as well as their own security deposit. If you fail to deliver the security deposit should more than cover the lost supplies. At best you could make your own contract and gank the courier for the goods back+ security deposit. But so few would take a large contract from outside their alliance. Public contracts would naturally end up being small potatoes in comparison.

      correct.

      Here:

With the nature of zone-bonus crafting, Albion needs a courier system.

      and here:

      CONTRACTS--Courier, Private, Guild, Public

both threads locked... so ummm... will this one get locked too? :(

      EDIT:

      Really good QoL change!
Is there any update on the Courier Contracts (and Caravans) feature? @Bercilak @Korn

i.e (similar to EVE Online) - you create a contract for a player to pick up and deliver goods from location A to location B for a reward. Player who accepts the contract has to pay a collateral that you set, and also gets a % reward of it upon delivery. That same person who delivers the contract - cannot see the contents of the delivered goods (they are placed in a "wapper" or a "box") to prevent foul play and add more of a sandbox feel.

Sorry if I missed some news or some other discussion similar to this already.

      Thanks!
@Evas_Flarelight @Elsa is there any feedback that we could get on this or any way to poke the DEVs for a roadmap update? Obviously once the April 10th F2P launch dust settles...

      We love this idea.

We actually have full internal specifications for such a system since a long time (which we feel are actually better than comparable systems existing in games currently). Unfortunately, so far, other features took priority - and, with Caerleon being so central such that the Royal cities did not matter to much, such a system would not have as good of an impact as it should have. Having said that, with the new world design in mind, there is a very good chance that we'll implement it. This would likely happen alongside or - more likely - after the world change.
