Faction & Artifact Capes

Hi everyone,

So I'm trying to understand how crafting faction capes and new artifact capes work exactly.

Does the cape crafting spec have any effect on the quality of the capes? I'm asking because they don't yield any fame on cape spec or fill the journals.

If they don't have any effect, does the quality of the base cape used for crafting affect the quality of the faction or artifact cape?

I searched a bit but haven't seen any discussion with an explanation about how these work, enlighten me please.

Really good question. I asked the similar question in general chat.(I don't recommend that by the way; GC lied to me.) The quality of the cape used to make the faction cape seems to have little to no effect on the cape being made. So to use a masterpiece cape to make your faction cape is stupid. No one tells you this... and it's easy to do what I did.. ask in general, get false info, and then spend half a million on a masterpiece cape hoping for a masterpiece faction cape... to be disappointed. You cannot use an enchanted cape to make a faction cape so at least that isn't an issue. The quality problem sucks though.. because like it or not.. You'll probably have to waste a lot of silver trying to get a T8.3 masterpiece faction cape.

I only made 1 faction cape so far, made a 8.3 Lymhurst Cape out of an 8.3 Cape (Excellent) and it came out Outstanding.

Yielded no fame on cape spec or into empty journals.

You can def make fancy capes out of enchanted capes. Unless they changed it all capes that are enchanted come out normal.

Did they ever change this? It makes no sense to not be able to retain quality.

No, it's not true that they come out normal, neither is true that it's not possible to craft using enchanted capes.

It is obviously not feasible to keep the original capes quality the same when making a faction cape since there are a lot of high quality capes out there and it's rather easy to craft one. But the question is still there, does it make a difference? Is it a higher chance to craft a high quality cape if the base cape is high quality?

I cant say there is anything obvious about it. Good capes also are not cheap. Sounds like another way to artificially manipulate the economy by sbi.

You can get T6 MP capes on buy orders for less than 10k... then you can upgrade them to .1 very cheap with runes.

Yer right there I suppose. Runes are cheap AF. I meant excellent or better quality. I corrected the post. Just wierd on the quality reroll.

Just to combine to this topic.
Cape Specialism with the introduction of factions capes and dungeon capes became completely useless in my opinion. See as well; Cape Specialism versus faction/ mob factions capes.

So, another bump, and I'll keep this bumped until someone who knows how things work gives us a definitive answer.

No. Faction Cape crafting is completely independent from any destiny board unlocks. Including specializations to improve the chance of higher quality items.

At the moment this has the side effect that the iem's original quality level gets lost when you craft a faction cape. But it is something that we want to fix in the future and is on our backlog. The fix would be to keep the quality level of the original item. Until then sorry for the confusion and inconvenience.

Also, just for clarification "independent from destiny board unlocks" means sald applies, but cape spec does not. - Yes?
