It was probably a stack of items you had for sale? You get the silver as each item sells separately (could be over hours, days or even weeks). You only get the email stating you gained the full amount (in this case 3m total stack value) as the last item or items in the stack sells. The last sale might only be 1m though as youve has the other 2m over time as they sold in bits and pieces. If its a single item for sale, or the whole stack sells in one go this shouldnt happen.

Whilst the island artwork is really good, they dont look or feel like islands anymore. They look like mountain top refuges a hundred feet up rather than a tranquil island surrounded by water in the middle of the sea. Mixed feelings about the look of them. Personal Island Mountaintop Retreat. And what about guild islands? ... even if youre not going to redesign then at least give the option to re-skin to a different biome type as a silver or gold sink.

Build a crafting station on your island. under the Administration option on the crafting station you can deposit silver if you are the owner. Deposit the silver and also make your son co-owner of the building. As co-owner he can then claim the building (via the building menu) and then access the Admin tab. he can then withdraw the silver. You can also or course stand next to him, use the trade option, and directly transfer the silver.
