  • This change is going to make it harder for smaller groups to be successful in PVP, and those mega gate camps where people are all spread out will be mostly unaffected. People at the gate just say "He's riding east" and so the people to the east dismount. That's it. It already happens with the current mechanics. Now small 2,3,4 man teams are screwed because they don't have the numbers to spread out and form a 'net' even if they wanted to or had the organization. Huge hunting parties with 10 or 15…

  • Almost every new content patch lands with a lot of negative reactions until the big issues get ironed out over the coming months. What's concerning this time is that launch is right around the corner and Hector has some of the biggest changes dropped on us in a single patch. The game has had a bunch of great minor quality of life changes in the last few months, especially regarding the UI. The overall direction of the game has been gravitating towards more traditional MMORPG's though, and so a l…

  • Now that everyone is stuffed into the sardine can known as Caerleon, we are going to see bigger blue guilds and bigger red guilds, and the minimum number of dudes you need to scrape together to get anything done will go up, up, up. Small scale PVP just cannot catch a break it seems. It's strange how GVG and Territory is set up in this game because it's so important and so few people actually get to experience it. You have to feel sorry for the average Joe who's maybe in a small guild with a coup…

  • Something is obviously very wrong when people are upset and complaining that the strongest open world PVP weapon is too weak. Either bows need to lose a significant amount of kiting ability, or other weapons need to have better gap-closing and sticking options. It is ridiculous how easily a warbow + assassin chest guy can dance circles around just about any other build in the game.

There are other options for different styles of play. 5v5, hellgates, large groups etc... The issue I am bringing up is that in small scale PVP, there isn't much that even comes close to assassin's jacket. It provides a huge amount of both defense and offense through it's utility. Being able to instantly go invisible point-blank, even when someone is casting or channeling on you is huge. It's the best armor to use both for ganking and for escaping, and anything using a bow in any situation. Assa…

  • Agree'd. Many maps that had several green dungeons and a blue dungeon now have zero green dungeons. Why? All it does was lower the options for solo/small groups -- which is already something the game is suffering from.

  • @Korn @Monochrome @Bercilak There's a lot of arguing about where Albion belongs as an MMORPG. A lot of players who have been around testing the game for years now have seen a pretty dramatic shift in the role that PVP plays in Albion. Red zones are now safer than yellow zones were when they are first introduced, and the current Outlands are less eventful than the old red zones. It seems like the level of play that a player reaches before PVP becomes inevitable has slowly been pushed forward over…

  • You can't say red zones aren't meant for PVP because they always have been. Hourly chests are meant to be PVP hotspots and Caerleon's location was meant to recreate the hotspot PVP towns in previous betas. The entire structure of Caerleon's sewer system is designed specifically to accommodate small scale PVP. The previews of the current beta even implicitly said that the red zones were designed for PVP. The Outlands have been a massive failure and only time will tell if Hector can manage to appl…

Quote from Raczer: “Quote from Amakor: “It is not like gatherers are unable to wear decent gear. You want lower risks? Gear properly. You want high reward? Wear your gathering gear and take the risk. But noooo, you want low risk, high reward. You want to be able to gather safely and efficiently in your gathering gear and waddle away on your horse as soon as danger comes your way. And you defend it like you are entitled to it. ” Well, perhaps you did not know this, but there are people who are ju…

Quote from Raczer: “Maybe all the gankers got this all wrong. Killing a gatherer is extremely rewarding. More rewarding than killing another ganker. When a ganker meets a ganker the base chance of win is 50/50 of we dont count risk v reward(IP and number of players etc.). The two major differences between killing a ganker and a gatherer is: -A gatherer has no chance of winning. -Its more rewarding to kill a gatherer. I have a huge problem seing why a gatherer only should have 50% chance of escap…

  • AO was a hardcore PVP game in older betas. Now it's a game, with hardcore PVP in designated areas. It just makes too much financial sense to cater to players who will dutifully spend all day mining rocks. I'm not even mad at that decision, I'm just hoping they give us PVP'ers a big enough bone to play with until the game collapses.

Solo PVP existing means it's theoretically possible for 1 ganker to have a good chance at killing 1 gatherer. This is an idea that probably causes the devs to wake up in the middle of the night with a cold sweat.

  • Bows in general might be 1 nerf from being useless, but warbow specifically is the king of small scale PVP right now and basically the only weapon in the game that allows solo PVP to be viable. But yeah, I agree with your last point. Bows need some new damage options to choose from at the cost of mobility/kiting so that they have an identity in GVG/Hellgates. This could probably be accomplished with their W ability slot, since that is currently a slot for kiting/utility abilities. A medium damag…

  • The player-base is becoming more and more PVP-phobic and the reputation system was the final validation. Now its 'gatherers' vs 'griefers', and actual open world PVP is being swept under the rug. A few guys making GVG/Hellgate highlight videos is enough to contractually fulfill the "FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE- INTENSE PVP ACTION" selling point, and then it's business as usual: focus on PVE content to keep the masses at bay until the next content update. I agree with your idea and reasoning completely. …

  • Won't happen. The developers are terrified of gatherers quitting from being ganked too much. Solo PVP is a no go in this game.

  • Bow abilities do relatively low damage on paper, but their range and fast CD's mean that there's almost no wasted time. They can deal damage while closing or while distancing themselves and are able to keep constant pressure on their target. We need movement speed on armor again so that we can have more diverse builds and counter options. If someone wants to 'double down' on speed, then they would have to give up their precious assassin's jacket.

Quote from Deleted user: “Oh I'm not saying you in particular or anything. Just any ganker in general who's upset they can't kill solo gatherers. For some reason games like this that bill themselves as PvP centric are interpreted as "griefer and ganker friendly". If they aren't then these people cry that it's not "really for PvPers" ” Well try to look at it from the perspective of someone who is playing the game for PVP. Like you said, this game is marketed as being PVP-centric after all. -For s…

Every large update that SI has -ever- put out has had major issues that took months or entire betas to sort out. I'm not saying things haven't gotten better, but the time it takes to iron out content patches is concerning. So it is very alarming that they are dropping Hector so close to launch. The realm gate alone deserves an entire beta's worth of monitoring. It is going to completely change how PVP takes place and will be the first time they have ever tried making a single town to be used as …

  • Cloth, Leather, and Plate armor should each have a movement speed ability to choose. The culling of movement speed abilities from most equipment forced people into flocking to the remaining few weapons that have good mobility. This hurts build variety in open world PVP in a big way. Allowing people to get mobility from their chest piece will allow them to have more freedom in choosing a weapon, rather than being forced into a weapon that has a sprint on it. Those who want to double-down on a mob…
